How Dordle Works
In Dordle you solve two five-letter words simultaneously with 7 shared guesses. Each guess is evaluated against both hidden words at once โ a letter can be green on the left board and gray on the right. Compared with Wordle's 6 guesses for 1 word, you get just one extra guess for a whole second puzzle, so every guess must earn information on both boards.
Today's Hint: Open With a 10-Letter Pair
One opener is not enough for two boards. Spend guesses 1โ2 on two words with zero overlapping letters โ the classic pair is CRANE โ SLOTH (10 unique letters, 4 of 5 vowels, heavy consonants C, R, N, S, L, T, H). By guess 3 you will have a full read on both boards and 5 guesses left to close two words โ a comfortable margin if you resist solving too early.

Dual-Tracking: Read Both Boards Every Turn
The core Dordle skill is dual tracking โ holding two constraint sets in your head at once. After each guess, scan left board first, then right, and classify each board:
- Hot (3+ colored tiles): one more directed guess likely solves it. Feed it next.
- Warm (1โ2 colored tiles): needs letter discovery, not answers. Use guesses that double as probes for this board while attacking the hot board.
- Cold (all gray): ignore it for now. Your openers already eliminated 10 letters; the cold board's word is built from what remains.
Solve the hot board first (usually by guess 4โ5), then spend your remaining 2โ3 guesses purely on the second word with full knowledge of eliminated letters.
Trap Escapes: The -OUND Problem
Dordle's deadliest moment: one board narrows to -OUND with six candidates (BOUND, FOUND, HOUND, MOUND, POUND, ROUND, SOUND) and you hold only 3 guesses. Guessing candidates one by one can lose the run. Escape with a burner word that packs the distinguishing consonants into one guess โ e.g. PRoBS-style coverage via a valid word like PHORM alternatives: play BROOM-family probes or simply FRUMP to test F, R, M, P at once. One burner that eliminates 4 candidates beats four sequential gambles.
The Guess-4 Checkpoint
By guess 4, you should have solved โ or be one letter from solving โ at least one board. If both boards are still cold at guess 4, stop guessing answers and play a third probe word with entirely fresh letters (e.g. WIMPY or FUDGE if unused). Information now is worth more than a lucky strike.
From Dordle to Quordle and Beyond
Dordle is the perfect training ground: master dual tracking here, then step up to Quordle hints (4 boards, 9 guesses) and Octordle (8 boards, 13 guesses). Each level reuses the same opener logic with wider letter coverage.
