How to Beat Octordle: The Buffet System

1. The Buffet Opening

One or two openers is enough for Wordle but suicide on 8 boards. Open with three words that cover 15 different letters — CRANE, SLOTH, DUMPS covers almost the whole alphabet's heavy hitters in one sweep.

2. Geminate the Vowels

With eight words hiding, vowels decide everything. Run a second wave like VOWEL + AUDIO to lock down A, E, I, O, U placement. A board with one confirmed vowel is already half-solved.

3. Budget Your Guesses

13 guesses, 8 words. Realistically you need 3 guesses just to open, leaving 10 for 8 words — about one and a quarter guesses per word. Every guess must serve two or more boards or you will run dry.

4. Read the Sea of Yellow

After the opening, some boards have three yellows and others are gray deserts. Ignore the deserts until the end. Feed the boards that are almost there — one correct guess can clear two at once.

5. The Late-Game Sweep

At guess 10-11 you should have five boards locked and three narrowed to two candidates. Play a word that confirms all three at once — one lucky swing can win the puzzle in a single guess.

6. Practice the 4x Squares

Play our practice board above like a real run: write your opening three words before touching the input, stare at all eight boards between guesses, and never look at a single board alone. Habit beats brilliance.

How to Play the Eight-Board Word Game — Complete Guide

Octordle is Wordle multiplied by eight — solve eight different 5-letter words simultaneously across 8 scrolling boards with only 13 total guesses. Every guess populates all 8 boards at once. Our free online Octordle game offers unlimited practice with localStorage progress, hints, per-board status, and full keyboard support — no login, no download.

Octordle Rules — How the Game Works

  1. Type a 5-letter guess. It appears on all 8 boards simultaneously.
  2. Scroll to analyze. You cannot see all 8 boards at once — scroll up and down to review each board's independent green/yellow/gray feedback.
  3. Solve within 13 guesses. Eight answers need at least 8 guesses, leaving exactly 5 "buffer" guesses for scouting and mistakes.
  4. Solved boards lock. Finished boards freeze; remaining guesses apply only to unsolved boards.
  5. Independent answers. The eight mystery words share nothing — track 8 separate constraint sets.

How to Win Octordle — 6 Pro Strategies

  1. Run the Four-Word Scout — mandatory. Play STARE, COLIN, PUDGY, BUMPH as guesses 1–4 without solving anything. Twenty unique letters exposed; 3–4 boards will be nearly solved by guess 5. Skipping the scout is how Octordle runs die.
  2. Triaged solving order. After scouting, rank boards by greens+yellows. Solve the two clearest on guesses 5–6, the next two on 7–8, and keep guesses 9–13 for the stubborn remainder.
  3. Scroll systematically. Check boards in fixed order every turn (e.g., top-left → bottom-right). Random scrolling loses track of which boards changed.
  4. Use the per-board status. Our game marks each board's state. Boards close to solved deserve committed guesses; boards with mostly gray need burner letters, not answers.
  5. Burner discipline. With 8 boards, consonant traps multiply. One well-chosen burner testing 5 consonants beats five desperate board-specific guesses.
  6. Climb the ladder: Wordle → Dordle → Quordle → Octordle. Never jump straight to 8 boards.

Octordle vs Quordle vs Dordle

Dordle (2 boards, 7 guesses) teaches dual tracking. Quordle (4 boards, 9 guesses) adds information budgeting. Octordle (8 boards, 13 guesses) is pure triage — screen management and solve-order discipline decide games more than vocabulary. The 4-word scout that feels optional in Quordle is mandatory here.

Best Octordle Opening Words

The mandatory four-word scout STARE → COLIN → PUDGY → BUMPH exposes 20 unique letters with zero repeats — maximum vowel coverage (A, E, I, O, U), heavy consonants (S, T, R, L, N, C, P, M), and the tricky Y, U, and B. Alternatives like ARISE → CLOUT → NYMPH → FUDGE work equally well. Never substitute a "clever" early guess: with 8 boards hungry for information, any committed answer before guess 5 is a wasted scout.

Common Octordle Mistakes

  • Solving before scouting. Locking a board on guess 3 feels good and loses games — those 20 scout letters serve seven other boards.
  • Skipping boards. With 8 boards to scroll, players forget entire quadrants. Check all 8 after every guess, every time.
  • Burning guesses on 50/50s early. Save coin-flip confirmations for guesses 11–13. Mid-game guesses must test new letters, not gamble.

Why People Love Octordle

Octordle pushes the Wordle format to its chaotic extreme — eight puzzles, thirteen guesses, short-term memory maxed out. Surviving to guess 13 with two boards left, then nailing both, is the most intense finish in word gaming. Our unlimited practice means you can chase that rush forever.

What is Octordle FAQ

What is Octordle?

Octordle is eight Wordle games at once. Each of your thirteen guesses applies to all eight boards, and solved boards lock so later guesses focus the remainder.

How do you beat Octordle?

Use openers that spread common letters across many boards. Track which boards are near completion and finish the easy ones first.

Is Octordle just eight Wordles?

Not exactly. One guess scores on eight boards at the same time, so your letters must be chosen to help more than one puzzle.

What is the best Octordle opening?

A common letter opener like SLATE or CRANE covers the most boards equally. Save rare letters for later tuning guesses.

What happens as you solve boards?

Solved boards lock and stop consuming your attention. Focus every remaining guess on the boards that are closest to done.
