How to Play Boggle
Boggle is the classic 3-minute word hunt: sixteen (or twenty-five) letter dice are shaken into a grid, and you score by finding words formed from adjacent dice. Letters connect in all eight directions — horizontally, vertically, and diagonally — and each die can be used only once per word. Our online version uses the standard dice distributions, so boards feel exactly like the tabletop game.
Rules & Scoring
- 3–4 letters: 1 point · 5 letters: 2 points · 6 letters: 3 points · 7 letters: 5 points · 8+ letters: 11 points.
- Words must be 3+ letters, in the dictionary, and traceable on the board without reusing a die.
- Two ways to enter words: tap a trail of adjacent dice then Submit Path, or type the word and we verify a legal path exists.
Pro Tips for Higher Scores
- Hunt suffixes first: -ING, -ERS, -EST, and -ED turn one root into four finds.
- Chase one long word instead of five short ones — an 8-letter word (11 pts) beats a pile of 1-pointers.
- Work the corners: edge dice have fewer neighbors, so words hiding there are the ones everyone misses.
- Review your misses: when the round ends we list every word you missed — run the board through our Boggle solver to study the paths.
