Play Scrabble Solitaire
Scrabble Solitaire brings the classic crossword board game to a single-player environment. Practice your tile placement, maximize premium squares, and try to beat your own high score on a standard 15x15 interactive board.
How to Play
You begin with a rack of 7 letter tiles drawn randomly from a standard 100-tile bag. Drag and drop tiles from your rack onto the board to form valid English words. Your first word must cover the center star square. Click "Play Word" to lock your tiles and score points, then automatically draw replacement tiles until the bag is empty.
How the Board Works
This implementation perfectly replicates official scoring mechanics, including double/triple letter (DL, TL) and double/triple word (DW, TW) multipliers. The client-side logic validates your word placements against a massive, 260,000+ word offline SOWPODS dictionary instantly.
Tips for High Scores
- Hold Onto Blank Tiles: Blank tiles are worth zero points but can be any letter. Save them to complete 7-letter words, which award a massive 50-point "Bingo" bonus.
- Parallel Plays: Don't just build outward. Play words parallel to existing words to score points for both the main word and all the two-letter connecting words simultaneously.
- Target the Premium Squares: Always try to land high-value tiles like 'Q', 'Z', or 'J' on Double or Triple Letter squares for maximum impact.

How to Play Scrabble — Complete Guide
Scrabble is the undisputed king of classic word board games, with over 150 million sets sold worldwide and more than 540,000 monthly searches. Created by Alfred Butts in 1938, it remains the gold standard for competitive vocabulary play. Our free online Scrabble game — a solo practice board plus a built-in Scrabble word finder — lets you train anytime in your browser with no download, no login, and no subscription.
Scrabble Rules — How the Game Works
- The board: a 15×15 grid with premium squares — Double Letter, Triple Letter, Double Word, and Triple Word. The center star is a Double Word square where the first word must start.
- Your rack: 7 tiles. After each turn you draw back up to 7. There are 100 tiles total (98 letters + 2 blanks).
- Tile values: common letters (E, A, I, O, N, R, T, L, S, U) are worth 1 point. Mid-value letters (D, G = 2; B, C, M, P = 3; F, H, V, W, Y = 4; K = 5) score more. Premium letters (J, X = 8; Q, Z = 10) decide games.
- Placing words: the first word must cover the center. Every later word must connect to existing tiles, reading left-to-right or top-to-bottom.
- Scoring: letter values are summed, then letter multipliers, then word multipliers apply. Cross-words formed perpendicular to your main word also score.
- The bingo bonus: play all 7 rack tiles in one turn for a massive +50 points.
- Blanks: worth 0 points but can represent any letter — save them for bingos or high-scoring hooks.
How to Win Scrabble — 7 Pro Strategies
- Master 2-letter words. Words like
QI, ZA, XI, JO, AX, and OX unlock parallel plays — short words laid alongside existing tiles that create 3–4 scoring cross-words at once. See our complete Scrabble 2-letter word list.
- Play parallel, not long. Amateurs extend one long word into the middle. Professionals play short words parallel to existing tiles, scoring the main word plus every perpendicular hook simultaneously.
- Chase premium squares. A 2-point letter on a Triple Letter square beats a 10-point letter on a plain square. Always calculate: base value × letter multiplier × word multiplier.
- Balance your rack. Keep a mix of vowels and consonants. If your rack clogs with vowels (AEIOU), dump them on a low-scoring turn to draw fresh consonants.
- Save S tiles and blanks. An S hooks plurals onto almost anything (+easy points). Blanks are bingo fuel — don't waste them on 12-point plays.
- Block triple-word lanes. If your opponent is set up for a big play, close the lane with a short word — even a low score that denies 60 points is a win.
- Use the word finder to train. Enter your exact rack (use
? for blanks) into the solver above. Study the highest-scoring options, then replay the position solo to internalize the patterns.
Scrabble Word Finder — How to Use It
- Enter your tiles: type the up to 7 letters on your rack into the solver box.
- Use
? for blanks: the engine tests the blank as every letter A–Z.
- Review by length and value: results sort by word length and base point value so bingos and premium plays surface first.
- Works for Words with Friends too: same engine, same dictionary — ideal practice for both games.
