How to Play the Waffle Game
Waffle serves you 21 letters on a waffle-iron grid — three horizontal and three vertical 5-letter words, all interlocking. The catch: every letter starts in the wrong place. Tap any two letters to swap them; each swap costs one of your 15 moves. Solve all six words before the moves run out to earn up to five stars.
The Colors
- Green — this letter is exactly where it belongs. Lock it in and never move it.
- Yellow — this letter belongs in the grid but sits in the wrong spot. Ask which word it fits.
- Gray — this letter does not belong in that word at all. Swap it far away.
5 Waffle Strategies That Win Stars
- Freeze your greens. Every green is a solved cell — moving one wastes a swap you will never get back.
- Read yellows as addresses. A yellow E in a row word usually belongs in that same word's empty slot — try the direct swap first.
- Chain your swaps. If A belongs where B sits and B belongs where C sits, rotate all three in two swaps instead of three.
- Solve the crossings last. Intersection cells belong to two words, so they resolve themselves once both words take shape.
- Count to par. Most waffles need 6–10 perfect swaps; with 15 moves you can afford a few exploratory swaps, but not a scramble.

Waffle Game FAQ
What is the Waffle game?
Waffle is a word puzzle played on a waffle-shaped grid of 21 letters forming six interlocking 5-letter words. The letters start scrambled — swap any two to solve all six words within the move limit.
How many moves do you get in Waffle?
You get 15 swaps to solve the grid. Every swap of two letters costs one move, and your star rating depends on how many moves you have left when you finish.
What do the green, yellow, and gray colors mean in Waffle?
Green means the letter is in its correct spot. Yellow means the letter belongs somewhere in the grid but is currently in the wrong position. Gray means the letter does not belong in that word — move it elsewhere.
What is the best Waffle strategy?
Lock in greens first and never move them. Then place yellows by asking which word each one belongs to, and plan swap chains so one move fixes two letters at once.
