Clueword: How to Play Reverse Wordle

The clues are already on the board. Here is how to read them and find a word that fits every row — free, unlimited, no login.

What is Clueword?

Clueword is Wordle played in reverse. Wordle hides a word and asks you to find it; Clueword prints the coloured clue rows up front and asks you to find any real five-letter word that fits every one of them. Nothing is hidden — the logic is the puzzle.

You get the same green / yellow / grey information Wordle gives you after a guess, turned around and used as the starting point. That makes it a free daily deduction puzzle you can finish in a minute or two, with unlimited levels if you want to keep going.

The rules in 30 seconds

  • The board shows one to five clue rows, each a real five-letter word with Wordle-style colours.
  • Green — that letter sits in that exact position in the answer.
  • Yellow — that letter is somewhere in the answer, but not there.
  • Grey — that letter does not appear at all (duplicate letters counted correctly).
  • Type any five-letter word: it has to satisfy every clue row at once.
  • You get up to four tries in the daily puzzle, and fewer tries score better.

How to play, step by step

  1. Lock the greens. Every green pins a letter to a square, so start from a skeleton such as _ R A _ E.
  2. Collect the yellows. They must appear somewhere, just not where they are shown.
  3. Delete the greys. Cross those letters off your alphabet completely.
  4. Count duplicates. Two of a letter with one grey means only one copy is in the answer.
  5. Commit to a word. Submit your best five-letter word. If it breaks a clue row the game highlights exactly which row, so a miss still teaches you something.

Free daily puzzle and unlimited levels

A new Clueword is published every day at midnight US Eastern — the same board for everyone, a daily streak, and a leaderboard ranked by tries. When you have solved it you can keep playing: Levels is an endless ladder. Level 1 gives you a single clue row; higher levels stack three, four and five rows until only one or two words in the whole dictionary fit. Nothing is capped and nothing is paywalled.

Frequently asked questions

Is Clueword free? Yes — free, unlimited, no account needed. Signing in is optional and only used to post a score to the daily leaderboard.

Do I have to find the secret word? No. Any five-letter word that satisfies every clue row wins.

Is it a Wordle clone? It uses the same colour feedback but plays the opposite way: you start with the information instead of earning it.
